How to get there
Glamping Unplugged send you the address and directions before your check in date.
Phone reception drops just a little out from the glamping site and the directions lay it all out clearly so you know exactly what to look for and how to get to the dome.
I will also say that I downloaded the area as offline maps in Google Maps and it got me all the way there and loaded the map for the way home as well. Here’s my tutorial for downloading offline maps.
After you park, you’ll be able to use a cart to load your stuff and then there is a short walk to the dome. Again, the directions are all laid out clearly in the e-mail and I had no trouble finding it.
What to pack
Since you’re going off the grid, there’s a little more required in terms of packing.
The Glamping Unplugged website has a good list to detail what they provide and what you will need to bring which I found helpful.
I also posted a detailed blog guide on what I packed for glamping here. If you prefer video, I also posted my packing guide in a vlog here. In both I also included what I wish I had packed as well.
Facilities
Get ready to go off the grid.
There’s no power, no water, and no electricity.
Port-a-loo’s are on site and I will say that by port-a-loo standards, they are probably the cleanest I’ve ever used.
For showering, you can rinse off in the stream (without soap) and/or use shower wipes. I recommend the Epic Wipes which are huge, eco-friendly wipes that I use and they smell incredible!
There’s a small battery in the dome which is really handy to be able to charge your camera.
Is it private?
This is one thing that surprised me and I wanted to mention here.
I went there thinking it would be super secluded and private, but the other two domes are all in the same area. Everyone is not close enough to be in each others back pockets, but close enough to notice each other. You share the same toilets and I would be walking past the other sites to get to the stream.
Kind of like a shared, spacious campsite.
I’m not saying it as if it’s a bad thing, just sharing so you know what to expect.
If it’s your first time going off the grid or you’re a little nervous about this type of trip, it’s a great place to start.
The dome
Ok, now that you’ve got the basics covered, we can get into the good stuff. The dome itself!
The half covered dome is perfect for a unique getaway in nature. You have enough coverage for privacy while also having enough openness to remind you of the beautiful setting outside.
I have to say that it was just magical to lay in the bed watching fireflies butts glowing in the trees at night. Falling asleep to the sound of the stream was also incredibly relaxing.
Outside of the dome you have a balcony with fireplace and a grill which is the perfect place to spend your evenings.
What to do there
As you might imagine it’s the perfect place to simply relax and refresh. If you only have a night or two there, I think it’s best for complete relaxation. The reason I say that is so that you can get the maximum benefit of what it offers – unplugging.
Relax with things like playing games (there are a couple in the dome), reading, drawing, tanning, fishing, swimming in the stream, and just chilling out.
I especially loved having the stream so close and walking down to swim by the waterfall and soak up the sunshine each day.
If you have a longer stay it’s a great base for outdoor adventures as there are many in the area.
